STARSkate Assessments

How Assessments Work

The Skate Canada STARSkate program gives skaters the opportunity to continue developing their skills in three areas: Skills, Freeskate and Dance.

STAR 1–5 assessments are part of the “learn to train” stage and help build a strong foundation as skaters progress toward the “learn to compete” stage. STAR 6–Gold assessments allow skaters to continue progressing through more advanced levels.

Skaters progress at their own pace and are assessed when their coach feels they are ready.

At Queens County Blades, assessments will take place during regular skating sessions or during a scheduled Assessment Day.

Skaters may be assessed in one or more areas at a time and will usually know whether they passed shortly after the assessment is complete.

All assessments have a Skate Canada fee, which must be paid before results can be submitted to Skate Canada. If a skater is not successful, the assessment fee must be paid again before reattempting the assessment.

STAR 1–5 and STAR 6–10 Skills Assessments

STAR 1–5 assessments and STAR 6–10 Skills assessments are usually completed during the skater’s regular session time by their regular coach.

STAR 6–Gold Assessment Days

STAR 6–Gold assessments may be offered during scheduled “Test Days”, which provide a more formal evaluation setting.

Details, fees and payment information will be shared with skaters and their families directly.

Assessment Fees and Payment

Assessment fees are charged per attempted assessment. One assessment ticket must be purchased for each individual assessment.

The base Skate Canada assessment fee is $15 per assessment and must be paid through the QCB Uplifter registration system.

Additional fees may also apply, including:

• Coach/evaluator fees
• Judge or evaluator fees (Star 6+ only)
• Ice or host club fees (Star 6+ only)
• Partnering fees (Star 6+ only)
• Travel expenses (Star 6+ only)
• Other (Star 6+ only)

Any additional fees will be invoiced separately by the host club and/or the skater’s coach.
